Documents and requirements for opening an account
The main and one of the most important conditions to open the current account with us is that your company must have a connection with Latvia.
We may ask for additional documentation, information or explanation where this is required (e.g. account statement, documents proving the origin of the funds, information about the group’s structure, beneficiaries etc.) according to local and international laws and regulations as well as to respect “Know your customer principle” before entering or proceeding with business relations.
If you are setting up a new business, open a temporary account for this purpose available.
- Identity documents of the representative – passport or ID card
- Statutes, if the latest version is not available in the Lursoft database
- Registration number of the company
- Certificate of Incorporation, Certificate of registration etc., not older than 3 months
- Notarized Articles of Association, Memorandum of the Company or equivalent documents not older than 3 months
- A proof of identity of the signatory rights holder (authorized representative) – a document valid for travelling into the Republic of Latvia (a passport or ID card)
- Power of Attorney not older than 3 months, in which the notary certifies signatures and the rights of representation if they are not shown in documents available at the state registers or relevant administrative bodies, or General Power of Attorney (legalised or certified by an Apostille unless the laws and regulations or an agreement between the Republic of Latvia and the relevant country provide otherwise)
- Confirmed copy of Financial Institution License must be submitted, if you are a financial agent or a financial institution
The original documents or their notarial approvals must be submitted. All documents require a translation into the Latvian, English or Russian language with a notarial certification.

Frequently asked questions
If you’re already an SEB private customer, you can open a business account remotely via your internet bank for private customers.
If you’re not yet an SEB customer, you can book a video meeting or visit our customer service points in person to open the business account.
In most cases, it takes around 20 minutes. However, if we need to review additional documents, the process may take up to 10 working days. We might ask for more information to meet legal requirements and follow the “Know Your Customer” (KYC) principles.
The key requirements include:
- Clear connection to Latvia.
- Transparent ownership structure.
- Clear and understandable business model.
This may include:
- Your business activities are closely tied to Latvia. For example, production, services for the local market, head office, operating office, warehouse or other operational real estate located in Latvia, etc.
- Most of your clients, long-term partners, or suppliers are based in Latvia.
- You store or transport goods through Latvia using local logistics services.
To comply with local and international regulations, we may request:
- Bank account statements.
- Proof of the origin of funds.
- A diagram of the company's ownership structure, along with supporting or explanatory documents.
- Other relevant documentation.
Yes – if you’re an SEB private customer and represent the company, you can open the business account on your own.
Simply log in to your internet bank and go to Accounts – Business account opening. The process takes about 20 minutes.
If you're not yet an SEB private customer, you can become one via the SEB mobile app, by booking a video meeting, or by visiting one of our customer service points.

To open a business account remotely via the internet bank, you must be the company’s legal representative and meet all of the following conditions:
- You're already an SEB private customer with a current account and internet bank access.
- You’re a citizen or resident of Latvia.
- You have sole signing rights for the company.
- You have a qualified electronic signature.
- The company and its shareholders are registered in the same country.
- The ultimate beneficial owners are citizens of that country.
If you meet all the requirements listed above, no additional documents are needed.

Temporary account
Before setting up a new business, you need a temporary account. This temporary current account will be required for the payment of the share capital. Once the company is established, you can use it as your main account. You can open the temporary account remotely with e-signature, via video meeting or at SEB service point.
