In Klāvs Loris’s painting, everything is in motion – colour, form, image and space itself. His works develop between abstract and figurative painting: after working for a long time with an abstract visual language, in recent years the artist has increasingly returned to figurative motifs.
Loris experiments with various painting techniques and materials, often developing his own authorial techniques. In his creative process, chance, the resistance of the material and the courage to let the image emerge during the act of painting are essential, rather than fully controlling it in advance.
In Loris’s paintings colour flows, figures, signs and images create a space between the visible and the sensed. His works carry a strong energy, yet it is not merely external or loud – it is concentrated, internally charged and open to the unexpected.
This painting speaks about change as a creative force. In Loris’s works, the future is not a fixed answer, but a possibility – a space where intuition, experiment and the courage to move beyond the familiar become a path towards a new visual experience.
Klāvs Loris lives and works in Riga. In 2013 he received the SEB Grant in Painting. He is currently continuing his studies at the Art Academy of Latvia and, alongside his studies, works as a visiting lecturer at the Department of Drawing of the Art Academy of Latvia.
