In Gunta Lante’s works everything begins with a very delicate touch. Line, tone and empty space create a restrained yet sensitive world, where fragility is not weakness, but a particular inner concentration.
Drawing is the central means of expression in Lante’s creative practice. It is rooted in classical drawing skills, personal insight and intuition. The artist places great importance on the precision of the hand, the gaze and thought, as well as on a subtle sense of form and space.
Line, tone and empty space in her works create a balance between minimalism and emotional depth. Each mark is meaningful and every detail helps to hold the viewer’s attention close to the core of the work. Within this restraint, a particular clarity emerges – the ability to create a sense of presence, silence and inner tension with minimal means.
Gunta Lante is currently studying in the Professional Doctoral Programme at the Art Academy of Latvia and works as a visiting lecturer at the Department of Drawing of the Art Academy of Latvia.
