The #SEBYouthLAB apprenticeship is a great opportunity to peek behind the curtain of the bank. It is a perfect way to spend a summer – an unforgettable experience, new contacts, a wonderfully spent time and newfound friends. I want more!

In February 2018, I came to SEB Leasing as an apprentice because at the time I was a 4th-year student of finance management with a mandatory assigned apprenticeship at the bank. The apprenticeship director, who is my boss now, offered me to participate in the summer apprenticeship programme YouthLAB. I said “yes” first, but after a while the nerves, the unknown and a kind of fear took the better of me. Nevertheless, the director showed me all the benefits that could be derived from Youth Lab, and I decided to test my abilities.

Next came the apprenticeship itself - the first and relatively stressful introductions with the colleagues, the first assignments, problems and their solutions. It was a great challenge for me, as I am usually very shy and I don’t really enjoy being surrounded by unfamiliar people.

Regardless, we were divided into teams, each team was assigned real challenges faced by the bank, which we had to analyse, conduct surveys and present the results in an innovative fashion. I am grateful to the innovations director, who spent one day a week with us and shared his knowledge, guided us to the right path, invited external experts, who shared their advice, all teams were successful in creating their product/prototype and presenting it. I also gained an amazing experience and unforgettable emotions. In addition to working in teams, each apprentice worked in one of the bank’s departments - I worked in Leasing, in the risk management and sales support departments as a leasing project manager and I evaluated the purchasing power of actual customers.

Youth LAB ended a while ago, I work as a Leasing support project manager now. Despite my fears from taking part in the apprenticeship, I am glad and content that I decided to participate in it. I can say that the Youth LAB apprenticeship programme gave me confidence in myself, a completely new knowledge and a chance to participate in various seminars and conferences, it allowed be to try out the daily routine of a bank employee and, lastly, gave me an opportunity to apply my ideas and different point of view in solving the existing challenges faced by the bank.
