Marta Griģe holds a bachelor's degree from the Department of Painting at the Art Academy of Latvia. She enjoys painting with oil paints and is interested in various materials and textures, which lead to the creation of various abstract paintings, as well as figurative painting. Marta is one of the most prominent new voices in Latvian painting.
Her current practice revolves around interest in contemplating different materials and materiality as such. She brings her attention to noticing patterns in the nature. By analyzing scrupulously the details of her surroundings, Marta tries to understand the structure and rules of reality and her place in it.

One of the most interesting aspects of her art is her ability to combine classic materials (oil, linen, textures) with contemporary themes – identity, the boundaries between human and animal, and the fragility of reality.
Marta has participated in several group exhibitions, including the SEB Scholarship for Painting final exhibition (2022) and the project “Lost! Looking!” at Centrs Gallery (2021). Her works are described as visually saturated, intelligently structured and emotionally charged.
